Windsurfing: Ynslas estuary Wind Direction: SW Wind Stength: 15 - 40 knots Surf / Sea State: flat Air Temperature: 14C Sea Temperature: 10C Weather: sunshine/squally showers Max Speed: Distance Covered:
Arrived there to find Dave, Sarah and that 1 other guy out again. Rigged
the 5.3 again and the Mistral stinger. Was really gusty from the start and
one minute I was a bit overpowered and then the next it dropped to almost
nothing and I sank where there wasn't enough wind to water start. Was to
tiring messing around with the short board so I came in and got the Big
board out. The wind was still really gusty and at one point I must of been
trynna water start for a few mins and in the end I got pissed of with it
and uphauled. The other guy who was out broke his boom the day before so he
temporarily fixed it by tieing it to the mast with some rope. Looked real
hairy but he was out enjoying himself.
AL turned up later on and got on the water on his 5.7. Every time a shower
came through, mad gusts would come through with it and at times I was
completey overpowered. At one point, Al took shelter on the shoreline
whilst I was caught in the middle of the estuary with it. The gust
literally lifted me and the board out of the water and I had to abondon
before it landed a few metres downwind. I then tried waterstarting in ti
which was fun.
I attempted a few flat out gybes as well but to no avail.
Later on when another gust came through, I wasn't quite in the foot straps
I got catapluted forward and hit my arm on the boom. I couldnt feel my arm
at all and couldnt move any fingers. Thought I had broken it and was
wondering how the hell I would get in with 1 arm especially when everyone
had left the estuary. A few seconds later, the pain came through and I had
hit my funnybone, was quite releived and had to lie in the water for a few
mins to let the pain go away. Later on, I got catapulted again with a mad
gust and I got launched into the water in front of the whole rig, the board
smacked me on the back of my head which reminds me why I should really go
and get a helmet. Was a fun session with the mad gusts and was on the
water for a good 3 or 4 hours.
